In computer science, the term “bit rot” relates to how software tends to deteriorate or break down over time, without any changes to the code or data itself. In product development, the same thing happens to your user interfaces. What used to look like a navbar with perfect vertical alignment now looks like a misplaced rectangle with overflowing text. Where pixels matter, make sure they don’t rot.
In this talk, we’ll explore what pixel rot is, why it happens, and how we can prevent it by applying automated screenshot testing. We’ll use Airbnb as a case study and show how they prevent pixel rot across their entire codebase.
