Ekin Björstedt is passionate about sustainability, collaboration, and making a real difference. As the Secretary General of Global Child Forum, she works strategically and visionary to encourage businesses to take greater responsibility for children’s rights. We spoke with her about her work, motivations, and passions.

Businesses have immense power to create change

Ekin’s entire career has been driven by a desire to work on causes she truly believes in. Today, she leads Global Child Forum, an organization that engages businesses, policymakers, and institutions in addressing children’s rights and corporate responsibility.

– I firmly believe that businesses have an incredible ability to drive change when they commit to a cause. Our goal is to make children’s rights an obvious part of corporate sustainability strategies, she says.

A platform for change

Global Child Forum is an independent, non-profit organization founded by the Swedish Royal Family in 2009. Through research, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration, the foundation works to strengthen children’s rights in the corporate world.

– Businesses influence children’s lives both directly and indirectly, yet children’s rights are rarely prioritized in sustainability efforts. We help companies understand their impact and provide them with the tools to take action, she explains.

The organization analyzes corporate engagement in children’s rights, brings leaders together in global forums, and provides guides and resources to support businesses in their sustainability work.

Proud of creating real change

Leading an organization that drives critical issues on a global scale is something Ekin takes great pride in.

– We transform research and data into insights that lead to better corporate decisions and a more sustainable future for children. It’s an incredible feeling to see that our work is making a difference, she says.

On a personal level, she is also proud of having found a better balance in life.

– I love my job, but I’ve also learned how to unwind and enjoy time with family and friends.

Horseback riding – a passion and a sanctuary

When Ekin isn’t working, she loves spending time at the stables.

– My biggest passion is horseback riding, especially working with strong-willed horses. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being in sync with an independent horse. The stable is my sanctuary where I can be fully present and recharge, she says.

Besides riding, she also finds energy in nature and moments spent with family and friends.

Looking forward to new collaborations

She firmly believes that collaboration is the key to sustainable change and is excited to become part of Helio.

– I hope to meet many new friends and partners to exchange ideas with. Together, we can make a difference!
