One, Magnus, is a West Coast native with a global résumé. The other is a classic rock enthusiast from Spånga with a background in the upper ranks of the grocery industry. Together, they run one of Sweden’s most beloved culinary journeys – powered by dumplings and with the world as their potential market.
Beijing8 started as a hole-in-the-wall concept inspired by Chinese neighborhood eateries. But from the very beginning, there was a bigger idea behind it. Magnus Andersson, a business graduate with experience in both tech and retail, had lived in China and fallen in love with the simplicity, the flavors — and the scalability.
“I thought: why doesn’t this exist back home? Stylish packaging, quality ingredients, a clear concept — it should be possible to do this in a Nordic way,” he says.
That was the starting point for Ark Foods – the company behind Beijing8 – which today sells ready-made Asian dishes in the frozen section of grocery stores.

A second Magnus steps in
When Magnus Ros – former Commercial Director at Swedavia and with a CV filled with ICA, Axfood and KF – came in as an investor, it was mostly for fun. But it wasn’t long before he was in full time.
– I was drawn in. It’s hard not to when you see the potential and get to work with people who really want something,” he says.
Today, they run the company together, with the aim of making frozen food fun, relevant and really tasty. “Less preservatives, more flavors”, as they say.
From taste test to strategy
The team behind Beijing8 is passionate about both craft and business. They work hands-on with everything from product development and campaigns to taste tests and assortment strategies.
– We knew early on that we had something. Dumplings are loved and are a perfect fit for modern, conscious consumers,” says Magnus Andersson. “It’s just a matter of scaling smartly – with the right partners and the right products.
It’s a tight team with high energy and strong belief in the future. According to Magnus Ros, it is precisely the people who are the greatest strength.
– We have fun together, and it shows. You don’t build a brand alone, he says.

Dog, Helio and harmony
Both Magnus have found a home in Helio Slottsbacken, where they work together with the team – and sometimes also with Bosse the Labrador, who likes to accompany his master to work.
– It’s an environment that works for both focus and ideas. And for dogs,” says Ros with a laugh.
Overlooking the cobbled alleys of the Old Town, the next chapter in the dumpling’s journey is being planned. And if you recognize Beijing8 in a shop or on a menu – this is where it all starts.
